Dr. Schechtman
A smile is a true expression of inner beauty and joy reflecting confidence in connecting with others. It is a privilege to contribute to our patients’ lives by giving them the gift of an exquisite smile. I am passionate about providing the highest caliber orthodontic care with gentleness and integrity. And, it is my pleasure to be in a position of service to others, enhancing both their health and their beauty, including children’s braces and much more.
I have two adult daughters. I am passionate about spending time with family and friends and playing music. I also enjoy photography, yoga, hiking and exercising.
INNOVATION
Like most 21st century industries, cosmetic dentistry has gone digital. Smile Studio has been on the leading edge of that transformation from using computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) design techniques. Incorporating revolutionary digital technologies where they make a difference, and applying hand-crafted solutions where they matter most.
Contributions To The Community
Schechtman Orthodontics was the first orthodontics practice in Westchester County to offer free, life-changing orthodontic care to children from low-income families through Smiles Change Lives, a national charity. We continue to provide care to patients from Smiles Change Lives as we believe that all children should have the confidence that comes with a beautiful smile. Schechtman Orthodontics also participates in Support Connection, a breast cancer support group; Jeans for Teens, a charity to provide clothing for underprivileged teens; and the Yorktown Food Pantry collections for needy local families. Most important, we encourage and support our patients who participate in community service activities.

ABO Certification
I am especially proud that I am a board-certified orthodontist, also known as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, who agrees to voluntarily be evaluated by his/her peers according to knowledge and clinical skills. Becoming board certified signifies the orthodontist’s pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence in orthodontics.
The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), founded in 1929, is the oldest and most prestigious specialty board in dentistry. The ABO’s aim is to “elevate the standards of the practice of orthodontia, to familiarize the public with its aim and ideals, and to protect the public against irresponsible and unqualified practitioners.”
The Board upholds four main objectives supported by its mission:
- to evaluate the knowledge and clinical skills of graduates of accredited orthodontic programs by conducting exams and conferring time-limited certificates;
- to re-evaluate clinical knowledge and skills through administration of recertification exams throughout a Diplomate’s career;
- to support the development of quality graduate, postgraduate and continuing education programs in orthodontics; and
- to promote and encourage certification expertise throughout the world.
In order to become board certified, an orthodontist has to have passed a rigorous set of written and clinical examinations, as well as a comprehensive review of their credentials. The initial process of becoming board certified can take anywhere from five to ten years. Once certified, the orthodontist must become re-certified every ten years in order to maintain board-certified status.
